To assess the effect of protein levels in diet on growth of pink shrimp juveniles (Farfantepenaeus notialis), two completely randomly experimental designs were carried out, one at laboratory scale during 8 weeks and the second one in fertilized earthen ponds during 20 weeks. Samples of pink shrimps obtained after spawning in the laboratory, were used. Isocaloric practical diets containing 35, 40 and 45% were used in the first experiment and 40 and 45% protein in the second one. Effect of shrimp head meal inclusion level in litopenaeus schmitti juveniles diet. OceanDocs

This study determined the effect of different shrimp head meal (SHM) levels (0, 5, 15, 25 and 30%) in practical diets for Caribbean white shrimp juveniles Litopenaeus schmitti (0.29 ± 0.0025 g). A totally randomized experimental design was carried out under laboratory conditions during 54 days. There were no significant differences (p > 0.05) in survival of shrimps in all treatments evaluated. This result indicated that SHM included at 5, 15 and 25% in diet promoted growth. To evaluate the effect of Spirulina platensis inclusion in microdiets for white shrimp Litopenaeus schmitti larvae, a completely randomized experimental design was developed with 4 treatments and three replicates. Diets with 3 inclusion levels (0, 2.5 and 5%) were prepared. A control was fed Artemia nauplii. Larvae were fed for 120 hours from mysis I to postlavae 1 every 4 h, and water quality parameters were measured daily. At the end of the experiment survival was determined, and the development index of the larvae was calculated. The chemical score of the diet was also determined, using the L. schmitti postlarvae amino-acid pattern as reference. Empleo de la zeolita en la alimentación del Camarón Blanco Litopenaeus schmitti OceanDocs

Se evaluó el efecto de la zeolita como aditivo en el alimento de postlarvas y juveniles de camarón blanco Litopenaeus schmitti (0.8 ± 0.02 mg y 2.35 ± 0.1 g de peso inicial promedio respectivamente). Los bioensayos tuvieron una duración entre 30–50 días y se ensayaron alimentos balanceados elaborados a base de materias primas convencionales con diferentes niveles de inclusión de zeolita. Los niveles de zeolita ensayados no afectaron la supervivencia de las postlarvas y juveniles. Las postlarvas que consumieron la dieta con 1% de zeolita alcanzaron los mayores crecimientos (p<0.05). Results of the inclusion of GICABU and torula yeast in the diet for the Caribbean white shrimp (Litopenaeus schmitti) juveniles and cachaza oil in postlarvae diet are presented. Three completely randomised experimental designs were carried out to evaluate practical and semipurified diets, in juveniles and postlarvae respectively, with different by-products inclusion levels. Food was accepted and consumed in all the experiments. Live foods such rotifers and Artemia are still indispensable for mass propagation of larval fish. At present, more than 20 fish and crustacean species are mass produced in Japanese governmental fish farming centres and private hatcheries. Fry are either released into the coastal areas or used for commercial cultivation. This culture technology is rapidly developing with new species being introduced each year and larval rearing is increasingly identified as the number one constraint. Artemia is used most extensively, particularly for the mass production of Kuruma prawn, Penaeus japonicus .

Este trabajo se realizó con el objetivo de lograr alimentos nutricionalmente más eficientes y económicos en el cultivo del camarón blanco Litopenaeus schmitti. Se desarrolló durante 63 días en estanques de tierra fertilizados de 250 m2 . Se emplearon juveniles de 0.4 ± 0.01 g de peso promedio procedentes del área de precriaderos. The effect of diets with different protein levels on the growth of pink shrimp juveniles Penaeus notialis under laboratory conditions was studied. Animals with initial average weight of 0.4 g were fed during 56 days using four isocaloric (350 kcal/100 g) and isolipidic (8.7 %) balanced diets, containing 30, 35, 40 and 45 % of protein. Shrimp fed with the diet containing 45 % of protein reached the highest growth and the best values for nutritional indixes under evaluation. Un diseño experimental completamente aleatorizado, con cuatro tratamientos y tres réplicas por cada uno, se desarrolló en condiciones controladas durante nueve semanas para evaluar el efecto de la harina de hollejo para pectina (HPP) en la dieta sobre el engorde del camarón rosado Farfantepenaeus notialis (0,45 ± 0,13 g) procedente del medio natural. Los organismos se distribuyeron aleatoriamente a razón de 83,3 g/m2, en 12 tanques plásticos rectangulares (65 x 40 x 27 cm) con aireación constante y circulación de agua de mar filtrada. Para evaluar el efecto de diferentes niveles de proteína y densidades de siembra sobre el crecimiento de juveniles de camarón Litopaneus schmitti, se desarrolló un diseño experimental totalmente aleatorizado en estanque de tierra durante 72 días, con 16 tratamientos y 3 repeticiones, combinando tres niveles de proteína alimentar para definir la contribución del alimento natural al crecimiento de los camarones. La contribución del alimento natural al crecimiento fue entre 58.2 - 87.9% y los copépodos constituyeron el 65% del total de organismos del zoobentos. Una alta correlación negativa se encontró entre la cantidad de organismos epibentónicos y las densidades de siembra ensayadas.

La expansión de la industria camaronícola depende de un adecuado conocimiento del proceso de reproducción que permita desarrollar programas de domesticación. El potencial reproductivo de los camarones domesticados al ser transferidos a condiciones de maduración depende, en buena parte, de la condición previa en la que se encuentran. Los indicadores más importantes relacionados con esta condición y que se analizan en el presente trabajo en relación a la edad y el tamaño de los camarones son: el grado de desarrollo ovárico y testicular, la calidad espermática y los niveles de reservas energéticas en Litopenaeus vannamei. The quantitative and qualitative evolution of the heterotrophic bacterial community of sea water was studied throughout an experimental rearing of Penaeus japonicus in closed systems. Cluster analysis was realised on 417 strains coming from water sampled at different moments of the experiment. This collection includes 40 strains coming from a mussel used for diet and 40 strains coming from the digestive tract of one prawn after six months rearing. Experiences on importance of diet for shrimp postlarval quality OMA

This paper gives an overview of own experiences with respect to the impact of dietary conditions on the quality of postlarval penaeid shirmp. Direct nutrient-specific effects are documented for highly unsaturated fatty acid (HUFA), phosphatidyl choline (PC) and ascorbic acid (AA). Specific immunostimulants may also contribute to an improved stress resistance of the shrimp fry. Last, but not least, some emphasis is placed on the role of the microflora during the hatchery rearing, the possible reduction of bacteria in the live food adminstered, and the use of probionts through the diet.
